What does it take to get into the top 10?
Getting to the top 10 requires a great deal of effort and discipline. I dedicated countless hours to studying and perfecting my note-taking skills to ensure I absorbed as much information as possible. While it wasn't always easy, the feeling of accomplishment that came with each passing exam made it all worth it in the end. Through the process, I also learned the importance of time management and prioritization, skills that I know will serve me well in all areas of my life.
What’s your plan for the future?
I hope to get my Master's in Genetics and Plant Sciences at Texas A&M University and then go on to get a career in genetic engineering for a private company or research institution. I would like to make the world a better place through the improvement of our staple food crops like corn and wheat.
Where do you plan to attend college and what do you plan on majoring in?
Texas A&M University and Plants Sciences/Genetics
Tell us about some of the teachers and classes that influenced you during high school?
One class that truly stands out as my favorite at AHS is AP Chemistry. The wealth of knowledge I gained from that class was unparalleled, and I have to credit Mrs. Kass for making it such an unforgettable experience. Every single day, she introduced us to concepts and ideas that were completely new to me, and her explanations were captivating. Mrs. Kass's passion for the subject and her ability to make complex topics accessible truly made a difference in my understanding and appreciation of chemistry.
When it comes to the teacher who had the most profound impact on me at Argyle ISD, I have to mention Mrs. Baker. Against all odds, she believed in my potential and advocated for me to be placed in accelerated math. Her faith in my abilities inspired me immensely and motivated me to push myself academically. Mrs. Baker's dedication to helping her students excel and her belief in the power of education has left a lasting impression on me. I am grateful for the educational opportunities she encouraged me to pursue, and her influence has instilled in me a drive to always strive for greatness in my academic pursuits.
Who is your role model and why?
My role model is my grandpa Clyde Roberts. He is always teaching me new things and has shown me that it is always okay to ask questions and be curious. It is because of him and my experiences gardening with him that I am going into a career in agricultural genetics.
What is your biggest accomplishment outside of this great honor?
The accomplishment I am most proud of is achieving National Merit Finalist. It was hard work to achieve and it has given me lots of opportunities in regards to scholarships. I am also proud of going to state for UIL Science for the last three years.
