What a great year for Argyle High School Cheer in its first year in Class 5A. Argyle earned a 9th-place finish last Saturday at the UIL Spirit State Competition at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Argyle, which moved up to 5A Division II this year, reached the finals on Saturday as one of 20 teams to advance out of 70.
This year's Argyle team included 30 cheerleaders that continued the program's tradition of success at the state competition. AHS finished as state runner-up the past two years in 4A and have placed in the top 20 for eight consecutive years. Congratulations to the team and head coach Laura Truebenbach and assistant coach Erin Lemish!
"We entered into the competition with a goal of placing in the top 10 of our division. We achieved that, placing ninth, so we are very proud of our accomplishment," Truebenbach said. "Being our first year as a 5A DII competitor, we knew it would be a learning experience. With the transition into a larger classification, the 5A Division allows for 10 more athletes on the mat and the competition is considerably higher. We enjoyed the challenge and we look forward to the growth and improvement that is ahead of us in the future!"
