The Argyle Middle School Honor Winds and Symphonic Bands have each earned national awards!
The Honor Winds, led by Evan Fletcher, have been selected as a National Winner in the Mark of Excellence/National Wind Band Honors Project. The Mark of Excellence is a competition, entered by recordings, in which the top quarter are selected as National Winners and the second quarter receive Commended Honors.
AMS is one of 236 of the finest musical ensembles in the nation that entered the competition.
"This honor is a result of the hard work of our dedicated students along with the exemplary support of our administration, school board, community, and parents," Fletcher said. "We are so proud to represent Argyle ISD at the national level."
Meanwhile, the Symphonic Band, led by Bojan Gutic, was honored with a Citation of Excellence by the Foundation for Music Education. The AMS Symphonic Band was chosen as one of four Class AA bands in the state.
The Citation of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by non-varsity high school and middle school bands and orchestras. A unique competitive environment is created which allows ensembles to compare their performance quality to other outstanding non-varsity ensembles. The top 25% of entrants are recognized as Citation Winners, with the second 25% named as Commended Winners. All entrants receive a compilation recording of the winning performances.
"We are incredibly thankful for the national recognition we received from the Foundation for Music Education," Gutic said. "This achievement is a testament to the hard work, flexibility, and resilience we try to instill in our band students. It would not be possible without the support we receive for fine arts in our community and school district."
These recognitions certainly show the level of talent and outstanding leadership in the AMS band program.
