School Funding Referendum FAQs
A School Funding Referendum Addressing Teacher & Staff Pay Raises, Campus Support Positions & Class Sizes
At the regular school board meeting held on August 19, 2024, the Argyle ISD Board of Trustees unanimously decided to place a School Funding Referendum (VATRE) on the ballot for November 5. This referendum aims to address critical budget priorities, including raising teacher and staff salaries, adding campus support positions, and managing increasing class sizes.
If approved, the referendum is expected to generate approximately $2.5 million. It includes a proposed 7.7-cent increase in the Maintenance & Operations (M&O) tax rate to support these essential needs and secure a better educational environment for the future.
The M&O rate provides funding for school district operations, instruction, staff, transportation, maintenance, and daily operating expenses. In contrast, the Interest & Sinking (I&S) fund, which represents the other part of the district’s annual budget, is financed through bonds. It’s important to note that bond funds from the I&S budget cannot be used for operational costs such as teacher raises, rising utilities, increasing insurance costs, or other day-to-day expenses.
