Argyle ISD provides students with the opportunity to participate in Advanced Placement (AP) courses through the College Board. AP courses are designed to give students an academic experience similar to introductory-level college coursework while they are still in high school. Depending on the college or university, students may be eligible to earn college credit or placement by achieving a qualifying score on the corresponding AP exam.

Through the AP Program, students have access to resources and digital tools designed to support their learning and help them prepare for AP exams. These resources provide students with ongoing feedback and opportunities to strengthen their understanding of course content, while teachers can monitor student progress throughout the school year.

Important Information for Students and Parents

AP Exam Registration

• Students enrolled in AP courses are expected to take the AP exam associated with their course.
• Registration for AP exams for year-long courses typically takes place during the fall semester.
• AP exams are administered in May, with testing dates determined by the College Board for each subject.
• Exam registration fees and important deadlines are communicated through campus newsletters and other campus communications.
• Registration fees may increase when payment is submitted after the established deadline, in accordance with College Board policies.
• Fee assistance or exam waivers may be available to students who meet eligibility requirements.
• Families should contact their student's campus for more information about registration.

College Board Account

Students are encouraged to create a College Board account if they do not already have one. A single College Board account provides access to multiple College Board programs and services.

If your student has previously created an account for the PSAT/NMSQT®, SAT®, or another College Board program, they should continue using that same account rather than creating a new one. Students should make sure they know their College Board username and password before the start of the school year.

Argyle ISD partners with Texas Woman’s University (TWU) to provide eligible high school students with opportunities to earn both high school and college credit through approved dual credit courses. Dual credit courses allow students to experience college-level coursework while completing their high school graduation requirements. Successfully completed courses may apply toward both high school graduation and a student's future college degree, depending on the policies and requirements of the college or university the student ultimately attends.

Through the Argyle ISD and TWU partnership, students take these courses as part of their regular class schedule on the Argyle ISD campus. Dual credit provides an opportunity for students to challenge themselves academically, explore areas of interest, and make progress toward future college goals while still in high school.

Dual Credit Enrollment

• Students must meet the eligibility and enrollment requirements established by Argyle ISD and TWU.
• Course availability and eligibility may vary by grade level, campus, and academic program.
• Students must complete the required TWU admissions and dual credit enrollment process by the established deadlines.
• Students and families should carefully review course requirements, tuition and fee information, and important enrollment deadlines before registering.
• Successful completion of a dual credit course results in high school credit and college credit, subject to applicable TWU and Argyle ISD requirements.
• Students should consider how dual credit coursework may transfer to other colleges and universities. Transferability and degree applicability are determined by the institution the student attends after high school.

Students interested in dual credit should review available course options and eligibility requirements with their school counselor. Counselors can help students understand how dual-credit courses fit into their graduation plan and discuss considerations for their future college and career goals.

Students and parents should monitor campus communications for information about application deadlines, registration steps, course offerings, tuition and fees, and other requirements for the upcoming school year.

Plan Ahead

Because dual credit courses result in an official college transcript, students should approach these courses with the same level of commitment expected in a college course. Students are encouraged to consider their academic goals, course load, and future college plans when selecting dual-credit opportunities.
