Prevention & Intervention

Under the Texas Education Code, several prevention and intervention topics are required each school year. Argyle ISD counselors create developmentally appropriate lessons using evidence-based resources aligned with the Texas Education Code and deliver them as classroom presentations.

The Argyle ISD Skills for Learning are presented through guidance lessons throughout the school year. The AISD Skills for Learning are aligned with the Argyle ISD Graduate Profile developed by the Collaborative Visioning Committee, the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Program Curriculum (TEC §33.005), and the Texas Positive Character Trait TEKS (TEC §29.906). Argyle ISD school counselors use a Solution-Focused Brief Counseling approach to support students. This strengths-based method helps students identify goals, solve problems, and make positive progress through practical, short-term conversations.

Counselors may assist students with concerns such as managing stress, resolving conflicts, building confidence, or developing healthy coping skills.

Solution-Focused Brief Counseling is not therapy. When a student needs ongoing or specialized mental health services, school counselors partner with families to connect them with appropriate community resources.
