Students at Argyle Intermediate may visit the library anytime they need information or a book.   Certified school librarian, Mary Ann Riley, collaborates with AIS Teachers to teach information & media skills in context with content curriculum. The Library is open daily for individual students to come in and check out books at their leisure.
Students are allowed and encouraged to check out books for independent reading throughout the year. Free choice and independent reading have consistently been proven to improve students' vocabulary, reading comprehension, and verbal fluency. Developing as independent readers also encourages students to become lifelong learners ready to sift through the vast quantity of information available in the 21st century information environment.
To read more about the benefits of independent reading, see this page from AASL.
