UIL Announces Relignment & Reclassification for 2026-2028
Christopher Sayler

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced its Realignment and Reclassification on Monday, Feb. 2, for the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 school years, outlining new district alignments for Texas public school athletics.

As part of the announcement, Argyle ISD will remain classified in Class 5A Division II through the 2027–2028 school year.

Under the new realignment:

  • Argyle football will compete in District 3-5A
  • Argyle basketball and volleyball programs will compete in District 5-5A

Argyle football moves to the new District 3-5A, a seven-team district, after playing in a nine-team district the past two seasons. New additions to Argyle’s district include Eagle Mountain, Lovejoy, and Nevada Community. Argyle defeated Lovejoy in the first round of the playoffs this season. Eagle Mountain is a new high school that opened in 2024 in Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD.

The new District 5-5A includes an entirely new slate of schools from Argyle’s previous district. The seven-team district consists of all schools west of Argyle. The Eagles will leave the current district and play nearby schools Denton Ryan and Denton for the past two years.

UIL realignment occurs every two years and is based on enrollment data submitted by school districts across the state.

Argyle ISD administrators and athletic staff will begin reviewing the new district assignments and preparing for the upcoming seasons. Additional details, including full district and football non-district opponents and schedules, will be shared as they become available.
