Argyle ISD Trustees Approve Long-Range Plan to Strategically Manage Growth
Christopher Sayler

The Argyle ISD Board of Trustees approved a long-range facilities plan during the Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Special Meeting, designed to strategically manage the district’s continued growth while maximizing the use of both existing and future facilities.

The plan aligns with current bond programs and focuses on long-term sustainability while maintaining the high-quality educational experience Argyle ISD families expect. This approved framework provides a blueprint for how the district will proactively address enrollment growth through thoughtful campus configurations, feeder-pattern alignment, and the efficient use of instructional space.

“As Argyle ISD continues to grow, we must balance meeting today’s needs without overbuilding for the future,” said Superintendent Dr. Courtney Carpenter. “Our long-range planning ensures we use facilities strategically, remain responsible stewards of taxpayer resources, and continue prioritizing strong programs and opportunities for students.”

As part of this long-range strategy, the district will move toward a grade configuration model of Elementary, Intermediate, Middle, and High School. This structure is designed to help balance enrollment across campuses, provide flexibility for future growth, and help eliminate the need for elementary rezoning in the near term.

The district’s planning process included an extensive review of demographic data, enrollment projections, instructional space capacity, and future bond construction projects.

Campus Reconfigurations

  • Elementary Campuses
Argyle ISD’s four elementary schools will be reconfigured to serve Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade starting in the 2027-2028 school year.
  • Michael Ball Intermediate School (Opening 2027-2028) – West Zone
The new Michael Ball campus, currently under construction on FM 407, will open as Michael Ball Intermediate School, serving grades 5 and 6 from the West Zone beginning in the 2027-2028 school year. The campus is adjacent to Scott Gibson Middle School and will feed directly into SGMS, creating a strong secondary-school pathway for students.
  • New Argyle Middle School (Opening 2029-2030) – East Zone
The new Argyle Middle School, approved as part of the 2025 bond program, will serve East Zone students in grades 5 through 8. The campus will be located on Harpole Road and is scheduled to open at the beginning of the 2029-2030 school year.

Key Benefits of the Plan

The approved long-range planning framework is designed to:

  • Maximize the use of current and future district facilities
  • Help avoid elementary attendance zone rezoning in the near term
  • Support effective staffing models and academic programming
  • Create greater efficiency in how district space is utilized
  • Reduce the potential need for future bond programs driven solely by capacity needs

The plan also includes a zoning adjustment for the undeveloped portion of the Furst Ranch in Flower Mound. This will allow the district to address capacity for Legacy High School in the near term.
