Argyle ISD Plans for Future Land Needs & Growth
Argyle ISD Communications

As Argyle ISD continues to manage rapid enrollment growth, securing land for future schools remains a critical part of the district’s long-term planning strategy.

Prior to last year, Argyle ISD did not own property for future schools within its boundaries, which span approximately 35 square miles and include five municipalities. Recognizing this need, the community-led Bond & Growth Planning Committee identified land acquisition as a top priority to support future enrollment and facility demands.

Most recently, the district finalized the purchase of 128 acres in Northlake using funds from Proposition A of the 2025 Bond. This site, located in the northwest corner of the district, represents a strategic investment for a future secondary campus in one of Argyle ISD’s fastest-growing areas. With property secured in both the southeast and northwest portions of the district, Argyle ISD is better positioned to meet enrollment growth needs over the next five to 10 years.

The recently acquired Northlake property is considered a long-term hold, meaning there are no immediate plans or funding to develop it. Decisions about which campuses or facilities will be built, and when, will be determined by future bond committees, elections, and the Argyle ISD Board of Trustees.

The History

In December 2024, using funds from the voter-approved 2022 Bond, the district purchased 50 acres in the Furst Ranch development, located in the southeast portion of Argyle ISD. This site was selected in anticipation of significant residential growth and will support future secondary and elementary campuses.

In fast-growing districts like Argyle ISD, securing land years in advance is both prudent and essential. The district faces the challenge of finding suitable land for schools, which is becoming increasingly limited as developers acquire property for residential use and landowners choose not to sell.

The Strategy

When evaluating potential school sites, Argyle ISD considers several critical factors, including a willing seller, size, price, access, road frontage, available utilities, and topography. The district works closely with its five municipalities and community developers to ensure that new school sites are compatible with surrounding neighborhoods and aligned with community growth plans.

Purchasing land in or near master-planned communities helps ensure schools are built where students live, supporting shorter commute times and community-centered campuses. In contrast, purchasing commercial land is typically cost-prohibitive and removes valuable commercial tax base from local governments and the district.

The Future

Argyle ISD is projected to grow to nearly 10,000 students by 2030, underscoring the importance of proactive planning and community partnership as the district continues to expand.

The district will open a new middle school in 2026 and the fifth elementary campus in 2027. Both will be located on 50 acres on the north side of FM 407. These campuses will be the first built in Argyle since Hilltop Elementary opened on Harrison Drive in 2005.
