Argyle ISD is proud to announce that two Argyle High School seniors, Nuojaun Jin and Saathvik Pakhala, have been named National Merit Semifinalists.

“We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this outstanding accomplishment,” Argyle High School Principal Dona Lumsden said. “Being named a National Merit Semifinalist is a tremendous honor and reflects the dedication and determination these students have shown throughout their academic careers. We are proud of what they have accomplished and look forward to seeing where their talents and ambitions take them next.”

Jin and Pakhala are among approximately 16,000 students nationwide named National Merit Semifinalists based on their performance on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). The recognition represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.

The students will now have the opportunity to advance to Finalist standing and compete for approximately 6,700 National Merit Scholarships, which will be awarded next spring. About 95 percent of Semifinalists are expected to become Finalists.

More than 1.2 million students from more than 20,000 high schools entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT in 2025.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®), a not-for-profit organization established in 1955, conducts the program without government assistance. Scholarship funding comes from NMSC, business organizations, higher education institutions and individual donors.

The 2027 National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced beginning in April and concluding in July.
