Our Story
Long before Argyle was officially a town, it was already a community bound by the desire to educate its children.
In the late 1800s, the settlers of Argyle founded a humble schoolhouse that served as both classroom and church. Despite hardships—including fires, floods, and financial strains—the people of Argyle met their challenges head on, keeping education at the heart of their growing town.
By the early 20th century, the need arose to consolidate smaller local school districts. The Stoney Ridge, Beulah, Pilot Knob, Litsey, Prairie Mound, and Lane districts merged to form the Argyle Rural High School District. Additional school buildings were constructed in 1957, 1966, and 1970 to accommodate the district’s growth. The Argyle Independent School District was officially established in 1978.
Argyle High School opened in 2000, marking a milestone for the community, starting with grades 9 and 10 and graduating its inaugural class in 2003. Originally located along US 377—now home to the district’s middle school—Argyle High School marked a new chapter for Argyle ISD, allowing students to complete all 12 grades within the district.
Since then, Argyle ISD has grown rapidly, moving to Class 3A in 2006 to Class 5A in 2022. The 2021-2022 school year saw a historic 14.3% growth rate, continuing a trend of 10% or more each year since 2017, with only a slight dip to 9% during the COVID-19 pandemic. By the 2022-2023 school year, Argyle ISD celebrated the enrollment of its 5,000th student.
Under the leadership of its Board of Trustees, and through the excellence of its teachers and staff, Argyle ISD created a unique educational environment that appeals to families seeking smaller class sizes, strong teacher-student relationships, and increased opportunities in sports, arts, and extracurriculars—all within a close-knit community.
Today, Argyle ISD stands as a symbol of strategic growth and community commitment, evolving from a small two-school system to a district known for academic excellence, rapidly expanding enrollment, and a dedication to the educational experience of each student.
