AHS 2011 Profile

Compulsory Attendance

School Districts must investigate and report violations of the state compulsory attendance law.  A court of law may also impose penalties against both the student and his or her parents if a school-aged student is deliberately not attending school.
A complaint against the parent and /or student  may be filed in court if the student:
• Is absent from school on ten or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same school year, or
• Is absent on three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period.

If a student between the ages of 12 and 18 violates the compulsory attendance law,
both the parent and student could be charged with a criminal offense

Dress Code Update/Reminder

Students and parents may determine a student's personal dress standards, provided that they comply with the following:
  •    Dresses and or skirts are at least three (3) inches below finger tip length.
  •   Shorts are at least finger tip length.
  •   Dresses, blouses and shirts have at least a three-inch shoulder seam.
  •   Gentlemen's trousers are neat clean and properly fitted at the waist.

The following dress is considered inappropriate for school wear.

  •   Tattered, frayed or clothes with holes in them.
  •   Clothes with small holes must be patched or have a garment underneath to cover the skin.
  •   Excessively tight fitting skirts, leggings, shirts, or blouses (Stretch/Spandex skirts or pants/yoga pants/leggins)
  •   Dresses, skirts or shorts above the appropriate length.
  •   Tank tops (any garment with less than a three inch shoulder seam), mesh shirts, and muscle shirts.
  •   Transparent shirts, Spaghetti straps or strapless garments.
  •   Head wear of any type (male or female).
  •   Any garment exposing cleavage, the midriff or back.
  •   Body piercing jewelry of any type (earrings are acceptable for females).

The principal or designee reserves the right to determine if any dress code issue not addressed under this section is appropriate for school or related event.
