Argyle is on U.S. Highway 377 six miles southwest of Denton in southwestern Denton County. The community was named Argyle by a railroad surveyor, after a garden in France. Argyle received its own school district in 1884. Incorporated in 1963, Argyle is a community known for its rural setting of wooded, gently rolling land a small-town lifestyle. Argyle's population is now approximately 2,550 and it is 11 square miles in size.

Most available lots are at least 1-2.5 acres and suited for custom building. Currently, new subdivisions with homes on smaller lots are under construction or are in the planning stages.
